“I should’ve guessed you were a smarty pants!” laughs Casey. “After all, you were holding like fifty books when I met you!”
We sit down with our lunch trays on an empty table nearby. Having Casey as a friend has some advantages. Before the popular girls walked up to me and were joining in on a insult competition between themselves, Casey saved me.
“Hey, thanks for before. You know, the popular incident?” I grin.
“No problemo,” she says and bites into her hamburger.
“Ew, I can’t believe you eat that!” I cringe at the sight of the meat dripping out.
“Yum!!” she opens her mouth wide and makes noises.
“I can’t believe you don’t eat meat!”
“I can’t believe you DO eat meat!” I come back at her.
She doesn’t reply, she just keeps on eating her slaughtered animal.
Alex walks in talking to his friends. He laughs, great, another perfect thing about him. His Irish accent too. I try not to look at him, obviously my plan failed,
“Oh, so already you’ve fallen for one of them, which one?”
Alex says a joke and a blush forms on my face.
“Ahh, I see, Regina ’s boy! You better be careful, she’s one piranha that girl!”
“What are you talking about?” I say feeling the heat on my face.
“Alex is his name isn’t it? Hmm…I’m not sure about him. The other boys are idiots of course but Alex? I think he’s alright. Except for liking Regina ! That he’s an idiot for!” Casey grins.
She spots me frowning. “Hey, don’t get caught up with boys, they’re a waste of space in your mind.” She squeezes my hand.
Casey’s such a good friend.

Casey helps to distract me that weekend from thinking about Alex.
“I’m glad you’ve made a new friend” Aunt Freeda smiles at me but then whispers, “Though she’s a bit, you know, wild if you know what I mean,” she nods.
Aunt Freeda means she’s absolutely insane, because she is, and Casey would take that as a compliment. She dances around to music in my room and you can hear the thumps of her clacky high heels from downstairs.
My Aunt grabs my arm before I go up to her, “I hope she doesn’t influence you,”
“Frreeedddaa!” I roll my eyes and run upstairs.
“Hey, your Aunt is sseerriioouussllyy cool!” Casey laughs as I enter the room.
“Letting me dance crazy in these heels????” she grins.
Casey seems to be having the time of her life.
“Hey! I’ve got a great idea!”
I obviously have a worried look on my face.
“Oh gees! Don’t be such a worry puss!”
“I am not!” I say and try to hide my fear.
“Okay, so here it is, let’s go shopping!!!!”
She dances around the room singing the song that just ended.
“You are seriously crazy,” I shake my head.
She pushes her head back and opens her mouth wide, letting out a giant laugh.
She turns down the music, “So is that a yes?”
Hmm, it mattered what Aunt Freeda says.

Aunt Freeda drops us off just outside the mall. “Okay so I’ll pick you up in three hours time, is that enough?”
“Yup!” Casey answers for me.
We enter the glass sliding doors full of excitement.
“So what first?” Casey asks me.
“Well…”
Suddenly Casey dashes off, “Come on slow poke!”
“Ah! Caaaseey!” I scream and start to sprint.
Crash!
“Oh my goodness, I’m soo sorry Mister.”
I look up.
“Is it fate?” he grins. Alex grins his perfect smile.
Gosh why, oh why?
